The State of Maine has some great resources for older adults, Check out their new Portal for Senior Citizens. You'll find everything from lottery results to info on disability license plates.

Organizations

  • American Association of Retired People (AARP) In addition to lots of useful links, be sure to check often for special focus articles and online guides.
  • ElderHostel--Take a look at the catalogs here and find some exciting educational opportunities. 
  • The Third Age--The 'Third Age' is the new, extended period of active adulthood which starts in the early 50s. It is characterized by a sense of accomplishment and fresh beginnings for individuals who champion a new view of what it means to be older. Third Agers are active older adults.

  • Are you a grandparent? Grands Place is the brainchild of a group of people who are raising their own grandchildren, but this site is loaded with information that all grandparents will find helpful!
  • Have you lost a spouse? WidowNet is designed for both widows and widowers who may need to find assistance and support during a difficult time.

  • Eldercare Locator -- Sponsored by the U. S. Administration on Aging, this site is a great resource for locating services for seniors and their caregivers online.
  • Elder Law Answers -- Created by a nationwide network of attorneys, the site is intended to provide consumers with clear information on legal issues facing seniors. Legal services for Seniors in Maine
  • The Social Security Administration
  • Access America for Seniors--Government information conveniently collected in one place.
  • Medicare -- The government site with all the latest information. The 2007 edition of Medicare and You
  • MayoClinic.com--As you might expect, you'll find high quality information here.
  • Learn more about the movies that your grandchildren might want to watch while they are visiting. Check out these movie reviews at Screen It  This is now a subscription site, but to see older reviews, click the "No Thanks" button at the bottom of the page.
  • Senior Mag -- Provides you with the tools and resources to manage many of the senior specific circumstances that naturally arise.
  • Department of Veterans Affairs -- for our wonderful veterans.

Internet Savvy

  • In FuzzyLu's Internet Playpen, you can start where you feel comfortable. This is site is billed as a "fun and safe place for people who want to know a little bit about the Internet and the World Wide Web without having to feel stupid or silly." We think it lives up to this description.
  • SeniorNet -- SeniorNet's mission is to provide older adults education for and access to computer technologies to enhance their lives and enable them to share their knowledge and wisdom.
