Welcome to WiFi @ York Library!
What is Wireless Access? Wireless access is internet
access using radio frequencies, as opposed to using cables. This
allows a library patron to bring their own laptop to the library and
use the library's internet connection. Wireless access is most
reliable on the Lower Level and close to the circulation desk on the
Main Level
IMPORTANT: This is an unsecured
network. York Public Library's wireless network is an
"open" network. Any information transmitted or received
through this network is unencrypted and unsecured.
Disclaimer: Use of the Library's wireless network is
entirely at the risk of the user. The library disclaims all liability
for loss of confidential information or damages resulting from that loss. York
Public Library will not be held responsible for any damages, direct or
indirect, to your laptop/notebook, PDA or other wireless device,
occurring as a result of the use of our electronic resources.
Here's what you need to use our wireless network:
- You must have a wireless card already installed in your
laptop/notebook, PDA or wireless device in order to log-on to the
wireless network. York Public Library's network supports the
following protocols: 820.11a, 802.11b, and 802.11g.
- Please register at our main circulation desk before logging on
for the first time.
- The York Public Library is not responsible for any changes you
make to your computer's settings and cannot guarantee your
hardware will work with our wireless connection.
- Staff and volunteers may not be able to assist with setting up
wireless internet on your computer. Printers are not available via
the wireless connection; if you need to print a file, send it to
yourself via email, save to a floppy or a USB thumb drive (or
flash drive) and use one of our public workstations to print to
our network printer.
How to connect: Just bring your laptop with wireless
networking card installed to the library, sign in with us and connect to the internet.
No passwords are required at this time and all visitors are
welcome.
